State Volleyball Tournament: Jasper Makes it 2 Titles in a Row!


Faith Academy had no answer for tournament MVP Alex Oliver, senior McKinley Ferguson and Jasper’s front line in a lopsided 25-16, 25-13, 25-18 victory at the Birmingham Crossplex’s Bill Harris Arena.

Jasper (63-9) finished with 47 kills as a team and limited Faith Academy to only 20. The Vikings are now 133-14 over the last two seasons. The MVP player of the tournament was Alex Oliver. McKinley Ferguson and Temperance Chatman joined Oliver on the All-Tournament Team.

Ferguson closed out the match with a kill that sent Jasper players piling onto each another in front of the net.

“This means a lot to all of us,” Oliver said after the victory. “We put Jasper on the map and set the standard for the rest to come.”

Oliver led Jasper with 17 kills to go along with eight digs, one assist and one ace. Ferguson had 15 kills, 10 digs, three assists and two aces, Dayion Johnson had six kills and three blocks, Jordan Gilbert had five kills and one block, Kelsey Shelton had three kills, 16 digs and one assist, Temperance Chatman had 36 assists, eight digs and one kill, Tryneti Chatman had nine digs and one assist and Lexie Shephard had three digs.
