The Walker High School senior class of 2017 opened the graduation ceremony by honoring Walker Assistant Principal Mr. Tommy Hobson. Each student carried a carnation which they laid on the remeberance table before the ceremony began.
The Jasper City Schools were well represented at the recent State ACTE Technology Competition! West Jasper School came home with the most trophies with 12 students having 1st-3rd place finishes!

A "Hoppin" Good Time! Students at North Highland School enjoyed an Annual Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Jasper Pilot Club.
JCS students in grades 3 through 8 will take the ACT Aspire assessment next week. Mr. Sargent, Principal at West Jasper Elementary, came to school today prepared to show students how easy it is to "knock out this test" and do their best!
A school and community are in mourning after the sudden death of Walker High School's Assistant Principal, Mr. Tommy Lynn Hobson. There will be a special memorial service at Jasper High School tomorrow, March 28, 2017, at 6:00 p.m.
The Lady Viking's Softball Team is opening their new softball facility on Tuesday, March 14 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Lady Vikings have their own on-campus field after years of playing its home games at Memorial Park.

Pre-K and Kindergarten Registration for Jasper City Schools will be the week of May 1, 2017.
Students living withing the Jasper city limits should report to T.R. Simmons Elementary School for Pre-K and K registration.
All students living outside the Jasper city limits, but would like to apply to attend a city school, should report to the Jasper City Board of Education at 110 17th Street West between the hours of 8:00 am and 3:00 pm during the week of May 1-5, 2017.

During the month of February, students in the Jasper City Schools participated in a variety of programs and activities to celebrate Black History Month.
Career and Technical Education Month was celebrated at the Jasper City Schools Board Meeting with a visit from students and faculty representing the Business Management and Administration, Health Science, Culinary Arts, Precision Machining, and the US Army JROTC.
Jasper City School students representing Memorial Park Elementary, T.R. Simmons Elementary, West Jasper Elementary and Maddox Middle School, competed in the West Central Regional Technology Team Fair on February 24th at Bevill State College in Fayette, Alabama. Approximately 75 students participated and over 50 of these students qualified with a first or second place finish to compete at the state level in Montgomery in a couple of weeks.
Mr. Terry Smith was recently named the Interim Principal at Walker High School. Mr. Smith has extensive experience as a teacher and an adminstrator in different Alabama schools. Most recently, he worked with the Hoover City Schools.
Maddox Middle School students stood motionless with their eyes staring straight ahead in the school library. The students weren’t in trouble, though, they were dressed up as wax statues of influential people throughout history.

Walker's Encore Showchoir, under the direction of Mr. Garrett Lindsey, recently competed against other Alabama high school showchoir groups. In the Tier II division they were the GRAND CHAMPIONS!
Walker's Maddie Harrell won the Class 6A 60-meter hurdles during final day action at the AHSAA indoor track and field championships at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham on Saturday, February 4th.
Sophomores at Walker High School were able to Job Shadow two of their top career choices.

Walker High School’s athletic training program was recently honored with its designation as a Safe Sport School from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. The designation is made every three years, and this is the second straight time for Walker to be recognized. A ribbon cutting was held for the new Jasper High School on Thursday, December 8th, as city leaders and members of the school district celebrated the historic occasion.
The 8th grade drama class of Maddox Middle School presented Walt Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" on December 4th and 5th for community members, elementary students and their peers. It was an outstanding production once again put together by Tamara Matthews and Beth Able.

Jasper City Schools recognize National School Bus Safety Week 2016. Jasper City Schools transport an estimate of 700 students daily. It is extremely important for students, parents, bus drivers and other drivers to be aware of School Bus Safety Tips. School Bus Safety Tips for Everyone brochures will be sent home this week.
The first installment of the Walking School Bus was a great success. On October 7th, West Jasper Elementary School students met at designated routes and walked to school with community members Jasper Police Department officers, and parents. Two new routes were added this year. Community members are encouraged to be a part of this year's Walking School Bus Program. Please check the calendar on the WJES home page for other WSB dates. The next WSB is scheduled during November.
Jasper City Schools will not be in session on Monday, October 10th in observance of Columbus Day.

The Herman Moore LAMP Award of Exceptional Service is awarded annually by the Alabama Library Expo to librarians and library media specialists who have rendered outstanding and exceptional service to their patrons, schools, and communities over an extended period of time. I am happy to announce that Lisa O'Mary received this award today at the Alabama Library Expo. It is well deserved, and we are so proud Lisa is a part of the Memorial Park Elementary family!!!

Jasper City Schools were back in session on Tuesday, August 9th. Enrollment is up across the district and we are anticipating a GREAT school year! Mrs. Melanie Turner is pictured with her first grade students at West Jasper Elementary School. All JCS schools welcome our staff, students and parents!
